Originally produced by The New Group in 1996, This Is Our Youth is a stage play portrayed by the American theater actor and screenwriter Kenneth Lonergan. After 22 performances in the off-Broadway at the Intar Theater on October 1996, the show had been closed on November 24, 1996.
Under Mark Brokaw’s direction, the play features its main casts including Josh Hamilton as Dennis, Mark Ruffalo as Warren and Missy Yager as Jessica. From November 3, 1998 until May 2, 1999, the show had played off-Broadway at the McGinn-Cazale Theater with its original casting and a new addition of Mark Rosenthal playing the role of Dennis.
For over years in the off-Broadway and Broadway entertainment, the show had played and performed in several theaters, including the Garrick Theater and Steppenwolf Theater, both in different castings.
On August 8, 2014, the play was officially previewed on Broadway at the Cort Theater, its worldwide premiering happened last September 11, 2014 with a twenty-week run until January 4, 2015. Under Anna D. Shapiro’s new direction and is created by Steppenwolf production, the play introduces the new set of casts, which include Kiera Culkin, Tavu Gevinson and Michael Cera. Before the show’s official Broadway debut, the show once played at the Steppenwolf Theater Company located in Chicago, from June 10 to July 27, 2014 (1 month and 17 days).
Brief explanation: Plot
The play tells a story about the exploration of the timeless issues of adolescence and maturity, which seemed to be alike with the Reagan Era (40th U.S President Ronald Reagan, 1981-1989) where the play is set to the time back to the 1980’s period.
